Just tried this on my Peugeot 307, didnt think for a second that it would work but it did, my remote locking works and all I had to do was follow the instruction on the link below. Peugeot were going to charge me £75 to get the transponder code and then 1/2 labour to porgramme the key - genius!!

how long will it take to get a new key cut by a dealer though ?

Lots of keys have the immobiliser transponder built in. They are so called 'chipped keys' and only the key for your car (or a new one from the manufacturer) will operate the immobiliser. You can't just go an get one of these types of key cut.

To test if you have a chipped key, leave your old key in the house or somewhere a fair way from the car. See if the new key will start the car. If it doesn't get the new key and try again with the new key near the ignition switch. If the car starts this time, you have a chipped key and have to go to a Peugeot dealer for a spare.
