Mend Kelvinator KD12MM Water Ago Thing

My Kelvinator KD12MM is no longer heating up water, do I need a new heating?

A few days ago the dishwasher ran but did not take in water for some reason, next thing smoke was coming out the back. I have run it since and it runs but no longer heats up the water. I assume the heating element is damaged, or could it be the temperature control?
