How can I mend my frister rossman cub 3?

Hi ive just bought a cub 3 on eBay but on arrival when I press the foot pedal down the needle refuses to go up an down .I can hear the motor and the pedal seems to "smell a bit " .any idea s ?

First of all release the stop motion and press on the foot control and see if motor is turning the wheel if it is then you probably have thread stuck in the raceway, if you have a smell coming from the foot control the chances are the suppressor is burning out, not a major problem just needs to be taken out and discarded
