philips widescreen tv problem?

we have a 28" philips widescreen model number 28pw6006/05. the unit developed a fault on new years eve [typical!] where the unit switches itself into standby mode after a few seconds when it is turned either by the main on off switch or by using the remote to bring it back out of standby. weve tried replacing batteries in remotes, moving rogue remotes to other rooms, swearing at it etc!

any advice greatfully accepted
