Mend Hoover HDV6 Ideas Replaced Heater

Hoover HDV 6 keeps cutting out and shutting down the circuit, any ideas ?

I've just replaced the heater unit on my HDV6 Hoover tumble dryer as it kept cutting out after just 4 or 5 minutes, when it did there was a sharp crack. Sadly this hasn't cured it. At the same time it shuts down the sockets on the same circuit and the switch has ton be re-set. Has anyone repaired a similar fault?
