Mend Moffat Washing Stopped Cycle

moffat washing machine?

my moffat washer recently stopped agitating when it was on the wash cycle, but still spins when it rings out clothes. taking advice of several others i checked to make sure belt was ok. belt was fine and transmission looks fine also, but upon turning belt i noticed agitator isnt locked into place it just spins freely or stays stationary. but i cant seem to get the top section off of agitator so i can see if there is a mechanism under agitator that might be brocken because when i do spin it by hand it wobbles and feels very loose.
