Why is my dishwasher smoking?

I have a GE Natilius that is 3 years old and when I put the following settings, my dishwasher started to smoke. The water was set to heat and the heating elements to dry.
I let it sit and later turned it on with cold wash, and turned off the dry heating, and it worked fine. Do you think that it is the elements to the hot water or the elements that dry? Or would it be the box to the heating elements.
