what is the purpose of the red switch next to battery?

a red square type switch next to battery on Renault kangoo authentique seems to be an isolator of some kind whats the purpose please. regards.

it is an inertia switch which shuts off fuel supply in the event of an accident.can sometimes be activated if you hit kerb or similar too hard.to reset press red button.
