how can i make my toshiba dvr19dtkb2 start?

i left a dvd in my machine for a couple of hours and now the dvd player will not start.it makes a cliking sound when i try to start it up.there are no ON lights for the vcr or dvd.i have unplugged it and tried to use the remote but to no avail..any help would be really appreciated.
