Why won't my knitmaster chunky ribber needles stay in d,c or b position?

i have had to cast on by hand because my knitmaster chunky ribber needles won't stay in any position apart from A. Does anyone know how to fix this problem please help me

Check the sponge bar in the ribber bed. It sounds as though it needs replacing.
