Mend Brother 965 Left Works Perfectly

how can I fix my 95 garter carriage?

My garter carriage will cast on but stops on left of machine and will not return, it works perfectly on 100 green needles on right of machine bed. 965 machine is 20years old.

Discovered the answer with my husbands help.
Problem was with the main bed (965) he dismantled
it and removed chunks of felt unable to reach in the
usual way.Worn needles didn't help either so now the
machine is singing.
