Mend Hotpoint WMF740 Washing Machine Faulty Timer

hotpoint WMF740 time cycle?

my hotpoint aquarius when put in any cycle the timer begins to descend but stops long before the cycle should end then either stays at a certain time remaining or in other cycles the time remaining actually goes up meaning it never finishes.
Any ideas
