peugeot 306 convertable 2000 model?

i have a radio cd player, i rang and got the code i was told that the word code with 4 lines after it would appear then insert code and it would start but the word code1 appears and it will only accept one number then code2 then code3 and code4 then it locks can anyone help me please?
