Mend Samsung 40" Fault Tv

Screen image fault on Samsung 40" TV ?

Whenever the set is turned on it has a band of coloured lines running vertically down the left side of the screen - from the edge of the screen casing about 1/4 of the screens width. This lines always disappear after 5 mins max. What is causing this and is it repairable, or do I need to replace the set?
