Mend Epson DX8400 Printer Ink Cartridges

Epson DX8400 recognises inks individually, and up to 3 together, but not 4?

I can install any combination of up to 3 cartridges but when the 4th is put in the printer says it doesn't recognise ANY of them! Likewise, if then ANY one of the four is removed, the three remaining ARE recognised!
