Mend Singer 449 Gear Machine Hook

How can I fix my singer 449?

How do I replace the small gear of the two in the top of a singer 449 machine. It's the gear that controls the bobbin hook?

presume you mean on rh of machine with shaft connecting to lower shaft?best to do is drill 6mm hole at back of machine in line with screws holding gear to shaft and work thru this hole to loosen screws. then it is a matter of lowering shaft to remove and refitt new gear
