Engine warning light on?

Hi, what could be the problem in the engine of my ford mondeo 2003 model as the orange engine light stays on and it has led to the jamming of the gear lever on Parking as it's automatic.. Is it a serious problem coz upon diagnosis it was removed but it came back an hour later..?
