Renault Megane estate 06?

Both front windows on our megane no longer work - previously the front passenger window had the same problem and was repaired by the Renualt dealership. We have taken our car in for a MOT and to have the windows repaired so they again work. ONly to be told that the loom is the problem. The renault garage is saying this part should not have failed. Spoken to RENAULT UK - they advise as the car will be over 6 years old in March - we will have to pay the bill of £600 for the part and £1100 for labour. Can anyone help this is a nightmare?

just a thought (sorry if i am treating you like a novice)...get a 12v tester (the one like a screwdriver with a wire and clip on the end) and pop the window switch out of the door, then put the clip on a good earth piont and poke screwdiver in switch contact and attempt to open window...if there is power then the light comes on (proving you have power to the switch and the loom is ok). If no power then go to fuse box, find window fuse and do the same..if no power then - ok it's the wires from battery to the fuse box (the loom).

Renaults are not good on electrics but all cars have their probs...it's only 6yrs old ,dont give up yet ! Dont go to a dealer...take it to a small, independant garage and ask their advice and a price...for God's sake - to wire in 2 new lengths of cable to the existing switches would take a few hrs max,( if it came to the worst) if as your garage says and it is the wiring loom and not the window mechanisms (which by the way is THE most common Renault fault)

As you have found out to your cost, Renault electrics are horrendous, you only have to look at this site to realise this. £1,600 is a lot of money to pay out on a 6 year old car, mind you, the way that they drive cars in France, Renaults don't usually last that long, so the French never have these problems. It's up to you, whether it's worth repairing and take a chance and hope that nothing else goes wrong with it, highly unlikely, or cut your losses and get rid of it to the scrappy, or, if you have no conscience, sell it while the windows are working.
