what could be causing tapping noise in bosch maxx washing machine?

I have a 5 year old Bosch machine which has just started to make a tapping noise when drum rotates in both directions, the noise goes away when it spins. There is a fair amount of give when I move the drum around. I have checked it's balanced and there are no other problems.
