Yes, Paul was right on how to remove the brush roll, but he didn't mention how to get to the motor shaft.
To do that you have to get the vacuum TOP cover off and there aren't screws involved. You have to look all around the bottom part of the vacuum for more tabs to unlock. Two on the left side, two on the right side. Then pull from the front of the bottom and the top will come off revealing the motor shaft.
This is a great vacuum, we have had it for 16 years and we bought it used! Still working really good.
