Defy DA 505 Automaid not starting cycles?

Hi there, I have a Defy DA505 Automaid washing machine that wont start its cycles, basically the machine, if left with the power switch off for a while unlocks the door, once at this stage if I switch the power back on (door closed) the power light comes on briefly and turns off again no matter what cycle its on aslo a click can be heard as the light turns off. Then if I leave the door open before switching the machine on, the light stays on permanently, when I close the door it immediately turns off. What could the problem be? I was told it may be the pump which I checked and it works fine when tested on its own and I disassembled the timer (front section only) and made sure all the gears were in good order and reset the timing, the door switch was the first thing I checked and it seemed fine so I'm at a loss now, can anyone give some advise?
