how to test & replace Alternator brushes & diodes in Mitsubishi 3L V6 1993?

i have a battery warning light coming on when driving, but the battery is good, and has been tested.
the alternator is the problem, and just wanted to see if anyone knows how easy or hard it is to get #1.the brushes "OUT" and new ones back in..., #2. test the diode. ????
any help is appreciated

brushes are easily replaced ,diode can be checked with a multimeter,diodes don't usually fail unless polaraties are reversed or alt is shorted out ,one thing to bear in mind is alts fail because of mechanical failure due to the slip rings ,these keep armature in alignment ,so check for exessive end play.if exessive play is felt then you would be better of getting a recon ,usually a exchange service .
