only a small amount of water in washer?

Seems simplistic, but check all the programme settings. Some of them have varying amounts of water.

Probably the water pressure switch, It checks water level by pressure in the pipe, You would need to take the top off, it looks like a 3" disk, about 1.5" thick, couple of wires and a pipe, usually situated to the front of m/c usually brown plastic, with metal. Remove pipe and clean, can get blocked with soap.
