Kitchenaid electric range superba model, ?

directions say: 'before using, insert the probe into the centre of the thickest portion of meat, place food in oven and connect the temperature probe to the jack. Keep probe as far away from heat source as possible. Close oven door. 1. Press the number pads to enter probe temperature" Well it just beeps and will not accept 'probe temperature'. then it says press Bake, Convection Bake or Convection Roast. Press number pads other than the one displayed. Press start.
So now I have the probe in the roast and I have to manually time the roast. So much for the 'probe'. What am I doing wrong. Would appreciate your help.
