Kitchen Aid Superba dishwasher door won't open?

Hi there,

The door of my KitchenAid Superba dishwasher won't open. It runs well but now there's a load of dishes trapped inside. The dishwasher came with the house so I don't have an owner's manual nor do I know the model number. The door handle is the kind that's an insert just below the control panel that you have to push upward to unlatch the door. When I try to push up on the handle it doesn't release the door. I've checked the child safety lock by successfully turning it on then off (at least the light goes on then off), so I don't think it's that.

Any suggestions to open the door?
