My window on my polo 1.4 (R) was finding it hard to open and close over the last week, then last night the window just feel to the bottom of the door all of a sudden, so i tried to close it and the window didn't move however i could hear the motor for the window working but the glass just stayed put, I managed to get the glass up enough to tape it up as i was worried it would get stolen but i need to fix it asap so please could any advise me on firstly what has caused this? and then how i would go about fixing it?
It is a fairly straightforward job, remove the door card and unbolt the clamps one at a time, a Haynes manual will give you all the info,£20 Halfords,Amazon, etc or try your local library as they can normally get you a copy

thanks for the advice its much appreciated, so you think that the clips have broken in which the glass is mounted to the mechanism. Is it a fairly easy fix, something I can do easily enough?

There are some plastic clips on the drive mechanism that break after time, if you do a search on ebay for polo window repair kit, there are plenty for sale around £20
