Panasonic DMR-EX75EB intermittent sound fault?

My Panasonic DVD recorder model DMR-EX75EB intermittently fails to record the sound when recording to the hard disc. Very annoying - can you imagine the British GP without sound? I would be interested to know if this is a known problem and if there is a fix.
