Rewind film on Bell & Howell?

I have a Bell & Howell 8mm model 256 autoload projector. I don't have a manual, but I heard I was suppose to run the film under the rollers at the bottom and back to the front reel put it in reverse and it would rewind. I do that and nothing happens. Am I doing it wrong?
