Mend KitchenAid K-5 Mixer Speed Control Repair

1985 model Kitchaide K-5 mixer HELP please?

I could not regulate the speed. Hubby removed the phase control board and a new one was purchased #9706595. It arrived and was installed and now the mixer won't even turn on. HELP please.
