how to adjust steerin gear and steering pinion gear?

I have a 2005 troy-bilt Super Bronco 43" rider. Model 13at609g766. The steering gear and steering pinion gear have seperated to where they barely touch and I have lost steering control of the mower. Could anyone tell me how to adjust the gears or how to remedy this problem
