my dvd player want stay on ?

i have a pioneer dvd/cd player but when i turn it on a clock lights up then it goes off every time i try to turn it on it shuts down can somebody help please as this is a good system its probably something small i,m only guessing do i need a new on/off switch or can the system be reset if so how thanks ?
