Mend New Light Wire

Can a new light be safely connected without an earth wire?

I've bought a new light fitting which has 3 connection points, one for an earth wire. The existing wire in the ceiling has only 2 wires, one red and one black. Can the new light be safely connected without an earth wire?

D.I.Y, Lighting New Light Wire

in a word no,if it has 3 wires,then it must be earthed,
you must have very old wiring in house.
