Mend Samson ER420M Cash Register Manual Problem

when i turn register on any position with key it comes up as closed can any one tell me what the problem is i do have manual but does not explain anything about it

It means no one has logged on. Use your clerk button (CLK#) to log on. try 1 CLK#
