How to mend a Hotpoint cooker hood fan?

My hotpoint hood HD62X 34901 has a fan that pulses when the switch is held but stops once released. The light works fine. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

I have exactly the same problem. It lasted a year then stopped working, just out of warranty. The fan won't stay on after releasing the fan button - just pulses on/off.

I guess it needs a new controller - I see a "control panel assembly" part listed online - maybe its this part that has has failed.
