Mend Volkswagen Caravelle VR6 Automatic Start Turn

Key Stuck?

I have an automatic VW caravelle (VR6) the key will not come out of the ignition. It also will not start. I turn the key nothing happens. the lights come on but nothing happens. I have tried moving the gear shifter up and down to see if it is sticking but it seems ok. At the moment i have the car on my drive with the key in the ignition. Can anyone help?
