Mend Need Away Fixed

Can I fix my GHD or do I need to send it away to be fixed?

The ceramic plates on my GHD have become loose! Is it possible for me to fix them or do I need to send it away?

Hi,
I have just been handed one of these devices & asked to fix it. It's easy to remove the wires from the handle, but I guess if you are not electrically minded/experienced/licensed, you might be best leaving it alone. That said, DISCONNECT IT FROM THE POWER SOCKET! - to remove the wiring, remove the "O" ring from the end of the handle where the wires go into the body. Then, holding the jaws closed, remove the 2 screws from the housing immediately to the right of the "O" ring groove. That’s a bit tricky, however if you loosen them, then turn it upside down, they should fall out. Then you can lift off the top half of the connection cover. The power cord can then removed from the "slip rings". You can do some testing.. Eg use a multi meter to test the power cord, then the iron itself. (DO NOT PLUG IT IN, DURING ANY OF THIS TESTING) You must remember to push the switch to the "on" position if you expect to see an Ohm reading on your meter. I feel there is capacitance/inductance devices charging when you test it on the Ohms range, so a continuity reading will only show for a short period of time. Certainly there is some kind of electronics, considering the LED indicator. If you need additional help, please feel free to email me - dkahlbaum@bigpond.com. Don't attempt this if you are not confident or don't have the appropriate training. :-0
