Mend Drayton Digistat RF1 Not Working

Drayton Digistat RF1 not working?

I have a RF1 and the only I can get to work is by pointing
the remote thermostate at the receiver from about 1metre
away. Moving to any other position it will not work. The batteries on the thermostate are new.

.
Any suggestions to resolve this problem
