Renault Clio Alarm/Immobiliser Fault?

i have a V reg renault clio and when i open the car with the fob (remote central locking) the alarm makes a beep noise and keeps repeating at intervals (bit like a sonar). the car starts and i can drive it but the beep continues. when i lock the car with the fob all is well.

can anybody help?

is it possible to turn the alarm of and where will it be located.

many moon ago i used to have a renault 19 and their was a key slot in the engine bay to turn the alarm of.
