my 53 plate 406 110 hdi is a very bad starter it has anew battery but sounds lazy engine does not try to fire up glow plug symbol goes out very quick just bought the car is it possible that the poor starting has been going on for a time due to glow plug problem which has taken its toll on the starter motor when jump started it gives more power to starter but still sounds tired will start after a lot of turning over
Norman. In the first instance try heating the plugs up three times, then fire the engine. If this doesnt improve stating, just reply and we will work from there.

disconnect wiring to each heater plug and flick a 12v feed onto each plug in turn,you should see a small spark if the plug is ok,if not replace,would try and get a second hand starter also and try that too
