how to upgrade computer from disk?

hi i,v been all afternoon trying to upgrade friends computer its a windows 98 tried to run the windows 98second edition disc through it, but nothing we need to upgrade it as we can,t run broadband on windows 98 early edition can you help please

It's difficult to help much because you don't say how it fails. Nor do you gibve any details of the upgrade disk. Like is it a proper W98 to W98SE upgrade disk? If you can put a little more information on some one may be ablew to help.
