Mend Microsoft Computer Running Windows

Microsoft.net framework?

My computer is running really slow. I have a Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 3) and I'm trying to improve the speed. I have run Disk Defragmenter and Disc Clean but its still really slow. I am now trying to remove programmes to increase storage space and have a number of Microsoft.net programs. I was wondering whether I can delete any of these as there seems to be so many. They are as follows:-
1) Microsoft.net framework 1.1
2) Microsoft.net framework 2.0 service pack 2
3) Microsoft.net framework 3.0 service pack 2
4) Microsoft.net framework 3.5 SP1

Also, do you have any other tips for speeding up my PC. It takes ages to load, and the speed on the internet is really slow.

Thank you.

Try using a maintenance utility to optimise your PC. AdvancedSystem Care Free is good. You might find that this fixes your issue.

(The .net frameworks don't normally cause a problem.)

.net is essentially a set of programming interfaces. You may (or may not) have programs on your PC that require those .net runtimes.

As has been said removing them is unlikely to help with performance issues.

Try using cc Cleaner and defraggler. They often help speed things up.

You could delete them but unless you are running out of hard drive space (my computer runs fine with less than 5% hd space free) there isnt any reason to.

internet speed can be various reasons, I assume you are using firewall and antivirus as it could be caused maliciously. alternativly it can be caused by other things you are doing (downloading especially torrents), and some of the more popular websites are slow when busy, or could be your provider is throttling your service at the times you use it (try very early morning and see if it makes a difference)

computer running slow is a harder one to work out the cause of, when you say load you mean from turning on or when programs are used? if turning on then its a problem with the windows install, or programs you are running at startup (i.e what is in the system tray). Or there is a possibility it is a hardware fault, this would show with the computer being slow with games, and opening new applications.

the easyist (well possibly) way to deal is to completely reinstall windows if it is caused by the software, hardware problems would need more info in order to help you.

if you could report back with as much info on how and when the slowdowns happen then possibly we can further help with the problem
