halogen fixture repair?

My halogen light finally gave out after more than 12 years. When I removed the "bulb" the small "pin" from the fixture came out with the replaceable halogen component bulb. I was told it probably fused onto the bulb and the fixture will need to be repaired. How do I do this or get it done wihout it costing a pile of money?
