Mend Ford Mondeo Losing Power

Why is my mondeo automatic estate losing power?

When I've been driving for about 8 miles it starts to loose power. It has had a diagnostic check but no faults showed. The levels have all been checked in the gear box. The overdrive is on. Also when it looses power it smells of burning. eventually it will come to a standstill with engine still running.
