Mend Ford Mondeo Power Using Way

my ford mondeo is losing power and using way to much fuel?

i have an s-plate ford mondeo and it seems to lose power when i accelerate especially if i try to change into 5th gear it also seems to be using far more fuel than it should any ideas where i should look to solve the problem?

i have mk2 mondeo very occasionally loses power so i turn it off and it starts again then is fine for weeks or maybe few days, could it be new cat?
