How do I fix my timer on my Kenmore Heavy Duty Washer Model 4020082?

The timer on the washing machine was allowing the machine to wash the clothes for 5 minutes, then it would drain, I would move the dial and reset the water level and it would wash again for 5 min. and drain.
I took the timer out of the machine, took it apart and did not see anything obviously wrong. I put it back together and installed it in the washer and now it will not work at all.
