Dryer stops turning?

With my dryer the problem is it stops turning after a period of say 3 minutes, as if it 's going to reverse direction, I hear a clicking sound and then the dryer starts giving a filter care setting. It then just hums pretty quietly and the clock keeps turning and then it may or may not start turning again. I don't know if the brushes need changing or if there is something wrong with the programmer. Any possible answers as to what i could do next?
