Mend Peugeot 206 1.4HDI Repair

front wipers stopped working?

2003 model, 206 peugeot 1.4HDI
The front wipers have stopped working including the 'wash' jet for them. The back wiper works. A garage mechanic did some checks and told me the indicator, wiper stalk will need to be replaced and it will take an hour to do at an all inclusive price of £300!!!

Your opinion would be much appreciated urgently please.
