Mend Unidare WF18 Heating Thermostat Repair

My Unidare storage heater is WF18. The thermostat seems to have gone - ?

It was boiling hot - I couldn't touch the metal casing. It looks quite smart still, and I don't feel like purchasing a new one. And couldn't mend it myself.
