How do I remove names on add/delete progs list on xp?

I have removed programs incorrectly on my pc. I shredded the progs instead of using the add/delete on control panel. Now the names of the progs are still visible but when I try to delete them but it says that it cant "as the file does not exist" any ideas on removing the names? cheers Daz

try searching the registry for the program names and delete them from there.Be sure to make a backup before you dabble in the registry, incorrect key strokes can be fatal.
To view the registry , from the start menu, click RUN then in the text entry box type regedit then click ok.
From the file menu, click Edit, then find, enter the name you are looking for and start the search. Use F3 to search more.
If you are unsure what to delete, leave it alone,or you may have BIG problems in the future.
Some registry cleaner programs will do it all for you automatically.
Another option you have is to reload the original program again and then delete it properly.
