Melcom k5600 alarm?

Hi, bought a house with this alarm but the previous owner never used it. I have the original code (and engineer's code) but don't know whether these work. I'd like to get it working again, but don't want to set it off and have no way of stopping it if the codes are wrong!
How do I make sure it works?
